Slow Cooker Bolognese
Bolognese is a thick, creamy pasta sauce with just a touch of tomato.

- 1 Tbsp EVOO
- 3 Tbsp grass fed butter
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 lb ground beef or blend of ground beef and ground pork
- 1 tsp salt optional
- 1 c dry white wine
- 1.85 oz Healthy Gourmet Kitchen Bolognese Seasoning Blend
- 28-32 oz can whole plum tomatoes or 2 lb fresh plum tomatoes, chopped
- 1 c milk
- 12-16 oz penne pasta optional
- 2 c hot water optional
Add the EVOO and butter to a sauté pan and heat over medium heat. Add the onion and saute for 5 minutes, or until the translucent.
Add the ground meat and salt (optional) and stir, breaking the meat up into crumbles as it browns. Pour the meat and all cooking liquid to the slow cooker.
Deglaze the pan with the white wine, scraping up any browned bits with a wooden spoon. Pour this over the meat in the slow cooker.
Sprinkle the contents of the Healthy Gourmet Kitchen Bolognese seasoning packet over the meat in the slow cooker. Add the chopped tomatoes and milk to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
If you would like to cook the pasta in the slow cooker.During the last 30-45 minutes of the cooking time, add pasta and 2 cups of hot water to the crockpot. Make sure the pasta is fully submerged in the liquid. Cover and cook for an additional 30-45 minutes, until the pasta is al-dente. Serve with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
